This Privacy Policy describes how WAHEGURU ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our Android application. It covers the app itself; this website (waheguruapp.com) is described separately below.
WAHEGURU is developed by JustCall Tech Services LLP (LLPIN ACY-1685), registered office 905, Floor-9, Wing-A, Clara, Dombivli East, Khoni, Manpada, Kalyan, Thane - 421204, Maharashtra, India. You can reach us at [email protected] with any privacy questions.
Account information: your phone number, used only to sign you in via one-time password (OTP) through Firebase Phone Authentication; we do not see or store the OTP code itself. Name and profile photo are optional and provided by you.
Sevadar profile (optional, only if you offer seva): the seva roles you select (e.g. Granthi, Paathi, Raagi), the city, state, and country you type in, and your stated availability. These are typed fields, not your device's GPS location.
Precise location (optional, only when you tap it): the Gurdwara registration form and a home-visit seva request both have a "use my current location" button. Tapping it accesses your device's GPS through Android's location services, converts the coordinates to a readable address line, and fills that into the address field. Only that address text is kept; the underlying coordinates are discarded on-device and never sent to our servers. Location is never accessed in the background or without you tapping this button yourself.
Institution (Gurdwara) account (optional, only if you register one): the official name, address, contact details, and website link you provide.
Content you create: seva requests (place, date, time, notes), feedback and ratings after a completed seva, a link to Kirtan or Katha content you already host elsewhere (we do not host your media files), and vacancy postings if you manage a Gurdwara account.
Automatically collected: basic session tokens needed to keep you signed in and the app functioning.
We show no ads and use no advertising SDKs. We collect no payment or financial information, since the app has no purchases, subscriptions, or in-app payments. We never track your location in the background or continuously. GPS is only ever accessed when you explicitly tap "use my current location" on the address fields described in section 1, and only to prefill an address for you. We collect no health, biometric, or government ID information, and we do not knowingly collect information from children; WAHEGURU is not directed at children.
To authenticate you and keep your account secure; to show your public Sevadar or Gurdwara profile to other users, if you choose to publish one; to connect Sangat members with Sevadars and Gurdwaras for seva requests; to display feedback and reputation signals computed from real activity, never fabricated; and to send optional local reminders you turn on yourself (e.g. daily Hukamnama, Live Kirtan); these are scheduled on your own device, not sent from our servers as push notifications. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
If you publish a Sevadar or Gurdwara profile, the information on it is visible to other users, since the app's purpose is to connect Sangat with Sevadars and Gurdwaras. Feedback you leave is shown publicly but is not attributed to your name, it appears anonymously as "From the Sangat". We use Firebase (Google) for authentication and Supabase (hosted PostgreSQL) for our database; these providers process data on our behalf and are not sold your data. We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.
The app does not yet have a self-service "delete my account" button. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing [email protected], and we will action it manually.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app and our servers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your language and light/dark theme preference are saved in your browser's local storage and never leave your device. We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, both cookieless, to understand aggregated, anonymised traffic and load times. The website has no sign-up forms or accounts of its own.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
